Will learning violin be easier with 8 years of piano under my belt?

I have been taking piano since I was 7 (I am 15 now) and now I’m considering pursuing violin. I know it’s a difficult instrument, but I would like to know if my piano experience and exceptional ear training make violin easier? And if so, how much do you think?
I also think I might only take lessons in the summer. Is that not enough devotion to this sort of instrument?

Piano will help a lot. You already know the notes and how to read music. Plus you have the time down as well as an appreciation for what it takes to become good at an insturment.

Piano helps with music learning in general, not just violin…any instrument that you may pursue…piano will help because when learning it, you get to play all the harmonies, whereas in other instruments, you usually play just one melody. About your ear trainning experience, it could help, to certain extent. It probably won’t help you too much with intonation because when you play piano, it comes tuned to you, you dont really have to make any effort to make it in tune, but when you play violin, if you are not careful, you may hurt one’s ear :p
