Choosing a violin for a starter?
Hello, I wish to learn how to play violin. I have no experience on any musical instruments, and i’ve only bought couple books on learning the background informations. I just want to ask all the experts out here on how to pick my first violin and what other accessories should i get along with it.
Thanks you very much
A good way to find a good violin for a starter is to go into a violin shop and talk to the people there. They have experience and can help you choose something that is good and in your price range.
First, you need to figure out what size violin you need (again the shop assistant can help you decide – you should be able to put your hand around the top of the violin while it is on your shoulder comfortably).
You should try out the violins when you’re choosing or get the shop assistant to play something on it for you. Remember if you don’t get a full size, the tone won’t be as nice because the body isn’t as large (just unavoidable but as you grow you’ll buy bigger violins which naturally have a nicer tone). Check that the violin is comfortable under your chin (they have different shaped chin rests) and that it isn’t too heavy if you’re small.
Along wih your new violin you should also get – a case (a sturdy one to protect it), a bow, rosin (to put on the bow), a cleaning cloth (trust me – rosin make your violin disgusting if you don’t clean it – think white sticky powder) and a shoulder rest. I think that’s all you need to get started. Good luck!
EDIT: Also you might want to consider buying a violin second hand (if you’re just a beginner and looking for something cheaper). If you have a violin teacher, try and get them to come with you when you look at second hand violins because they’ll know what to look for.

Well you should just go to a music store to buy your violin and they will tell you how to choose one.
You shouldn’t choose a violin by it’s looks(well you of course don’t want one that’s chipped and stuff..)
And when choosing you should play it and see how it sounds and how you like playing it and things like that.
