Also, going without ...
Also, going without a shoulder rest could enhance a players sound and comfort. The violin is sort of balanced and not just floating around like the way you demonstrated. It depends on the players body frame and neck length though.

Actually, the best ...
Actually, the best way to control humidity is to make sure the instrument is consistently stored in a moderate setting and to control the humidity of that room (in my case, my bedroom).

Violinists have to be really careful with those dampits. I've seen a violin owned by a teenager that was a really fine instrument, but was ruined by water dripping from a dampit. I only saw it when it was opened for repair, so I don't know what state it was finally restored to... I hope it's ok.

umm... no.. most of ...
umm... no.. most of the great violinists didn't use any shoulder rest whatsoever, and a large number still don't. Many of the best teachers do not believe in shoulder rests either. I personally do teach with the shoulder rest, but I don't appreciate your making out like it's a necessary object. Read some literature. Educate yourself. Geez... Signed~ Juilliard grad

You must have ...
You must have learned violin from a grasshopper. I don't know why you presume that you know anything, but a dampit put dry inside a violin is not going to soak up moisture from the air, lol!! It's just a sponge. duh. And excess humidity does not exactly cause bubbling, especially on a student level instrument which is undoubtedly lacquered. Nor are student instruments generally in any danger of cracking, given how thick and strong they are. You are just shooting your mouth off.
