What is the best violin for a beginner?

I’ve been wanting to take up violin for a while, and now that I have enough money to rent one, I’m not sure which one to chose from.
Also, is it better to rent first, or buy?

Thank you!

This is a very nice beginner "outfit," beautifully set up:

Stentor Student Standard Violin Outfits are produced to satisfy the need for an entry level violin where economy is the main criteria. It features black finished hardwood pegs and fingerboard, and alloy tailpiece with four adjusters. The outfit includes a standard lightweight case and wood bow.

Carved from solid tonewoods
Black hardwood fingerboard
Black hardwood pegs
Alloy tailpiece with integral adjusters
Traditional inlaid purfling
Wood bow with natural horsehair and ebony frog
Attractive lightweight case with green integral cover and carrying straps

i want to know what the outside of the case looks like so i need a picture

and can you send me an website for cheap but good quality violins… THX

"Cheap" and "good quality" don’t go together when you’re talking about violins. You can get a cheap violin and have something that’s hard to play and sounds terrible or you can spend a bit more and get a student quality instrument that works.

"Black hardwood fingerboard and pegs" usually means that instead of using real ebony they used another kind of wood and painted it black. The paint tends to come off and those fingerboards warp easily. The pegs stick and are hard to turn.

"Integral cover" just means that a canvas outer cover is part of the case. Since we don’t know what particular style of case it is, a picture of another case won’t tell you much.

I travel alot between here and home. Also in the summer I stay so busy. Would anyone have a dvd series or some other supplemental instruction istead of hiring someone to teach me?

The violin is a VERY DIFFICULT instrument to master. Takes many lessons and decades of practice to become proficient. You don’t sound as though you have the time.
